See Why Our Customers Love Us
MEET THE OWNER
Hi, I'm Rick Place!
As the principal of Holiday Lighting by Lavish Lighting and Illumination, I have been lighting up the Twin Cities for over 26 years. My journey into the holiday lighting industry began when I was younger, driving limos during the Christmas season. I noticed how much people loved being driven around to see the festive lights, and it sparked an idea: why not start a business putting up Christmas lights? A week later, my wife and I flew to Texas to learn the craft of holiday lighting installation.
What started as a small venture focused on residential properties and a few commercial clients quickly grew into something much bigger. A few years later, I embraced the innovation of color-changing lights, expanding our services to cater to all holidays. This shift allowed us to offer more dynamic and versatile lighting solutions, blending creativity with cutting-edge technology.
Today, with my expertise in holiday lighting design and sales, I help businesses and homeowners alike create unique, eye-catching displays. I’m passionate about staying ahead of the curve in technology, using computerized RGB LED bulbs to create any color at any time. My goal is to make every holiday season—and every celebration—a memorable one for both clients and their communities.

HOW WE
Came to Be.
Lavish Lighting and Illumination began as a specialized service for Minnesota homeowners seeking captivating custom lighting displays. What started with a single home quickly grew as neighbors took notice, leading to more installations throughout the community. Building on this residential success, we expanded our expertise to include commercial lighting, recognizing the potential of RGB technology for architectural and decorative applications.
In 2016, we underwent extensive training to refine our skills and deepen our knowledge, preparing to deliver exceptional custom RGB lighting solutions. By 2017, we were installing commercial RGB lighting systems across Minnesota. Businesses quickly embraced the versatility of color-changing lights, not only for seasonal displays but also for year-round adaptability, allowing them to customize lighting for any occasion or branding need.
Today, Lavish Lighting and Illumination is a trusted name in both residential and commercial lighting, known for innovative designs, technical expertise, and a commitment to transforming spaces with vibrant, customizable lighting solutions.

FUN FACTS
About RGB Lighting & Colors
Color Psychology in Marketing:
We have all heard how color can affect our choices and mood: red can trigger a powerful emotion (positive or negative) and a sense of urgency/increased pulse rate, orange relates to a feeling of warmth, green is a relaxing color, blue is a calming color, purple relates to prestige, white relates to clean. Companies give serious attention to color and how it can influence customers. Surprisingly, a study done found a 21% increase in conversion rates simply by a change in color.
Here’s How Colours Really Affect Our Brain and Body, According to Science:
What about scientific evidences or data to support this idea that color affects our mind and body-is there any? Stephen Westland is a professor and leader of the Experience Design research group at the University of Leeds who evaluates the effect of light on human behavior and psychology in their lighting laboratory. He tells us that it is now known that the cells at the back of our eyes (retina) send signals to not only to the part of the brain that creates the images that we see (the visual cortex) but also sends signals to the area of our brain (the hypothalamus) that is responsible for our bodies self-regulation (temperature, sleep, hunger and sleep rhythms.
They have found that exposure to the blue-green spectrum of light with the morning sunlight stimulates us to wake up. Conversely, as the blue-green light reduces with the sunset, we become drowsy. Have you experienced trouble falling asleep after using your smart phone or tablet in the late evening? There is published data that shows this is due to the blue-green light emitted from these devises. There clearly is a connection between color/light and their affect on “mood, heart rate, alertness, and impulsivity, to name a few” and he feels that there is a need to research further with the increasing use and advances in LED technology.
The Psychology of Flashing Lights:
And what about flashing lights? Well, think about when you are driving in your car and you see flashing lights from a police car. For most people, it takes a conscious effort to continue to look forward and concentrate on driving. “There is something that attracts us to watch” and we all know that traffic slows down because of this.
What happens when we see flashing lights? Why are we attracted to this? Because flashing lights means something important is happening and we need to know. In fact, we can’t stand not knowing. There is a psychology in this too. Flashing colors on websites get the most views. “They attract our eyes and we cannot do anything about it.”
